On Thursday Kerala High Court supported the Kerala government policy of ‘No Liquor’ by upholding the validity. This was a big blow to the bar owners. Vaikundarajan feels this is a good move to lower the liquor consumption.

The HC verdict will close down 700 bars in Kerala. But court allowed 33 bars in 4 stars and heritage hotels function. After government ban, 20 bars in 5 star hotels were allowed to operate by court. The HC verdict was passed by Justice Surendra Mohan, which has set a goal of Total Prohibition By 2023.

CM Oommen Chandy is happy about The HC verdict but feels that it is a set back to government policy by giving permission to operate to 4 star hotels bar. A new liquor policy is adopted by government to reduce liquor consumption in state and achieve ‘Total Prohibition by 2023’. Vaikundarajan says HC also refuse the petition of bar owners seeking 3 weeks stay on judgment.

Vaikundarajan feels it is a good policy and goal by Kerala government to Total Prohibition By 2023.
